i am. observing

there isn’t a single day at umich that i don’t witness something unusual. some are unique to michigan, while others can be seen on other college campuses. i thought it might be fun to share some of my observations with you… so here they are:
1.coffee shops in AA are as pretentious as anywhere else. like, we get it, you can detect subtle differences in the taste and quality of your bean water. i know the difference between a real and fake reece’s cup, but you don’t see me judging you if you can’t. *admittedly, i can get caught up in the pretense of coffee culture myself.
2.homeless people are more friendly than my friends. every morning, without fail, my boy, who sits outside of starbucks on liberty st., hits me with a “good morning.”
3.if you’re a girl, frats are your friend, but only if you can fake being in a sorority. oh & bringing a guy friend to a party is just NOT an option. gotta be a brother to party with the brothers.
*tailgates are an exception.
4.walk outs/protests are commonplace. i had to walk through an anti-trump protest during orientation. I HADN’T EVEN STARTED SCHOOL YET!
5.smtd kids party harder than frat boys. it’s an odd evening if I’m not woken up at 3 am by the kids in my hall screaming show tunes.
6.ross students are referred to as rossholes. (though, i’ve met very few who have actually fit the description)
7.if you aren’t open minded, i would not recommend visiting. colored hair, cross dressing, and furries are not uncommon.
8.you must know your & others pronouns! if you go to school here, you will be asked to introduce yourself by your preferred one (check out @starlaces for help with this!)
9.do not, i repeat, DO NOT ever diss our sports teams or mispronounce harbaugh’s name. wolverines are passionate and will eat you alive.
10.people will find any way to get to class. i’ve seen people walk, take a bird, rollerblade and even whip our their unicycle.

so ya, its an experience. & i love it!
