i am. weird

duh. everyone is. most of us just don’t like to admit it. we put out this “cool kid” persona like we never stalk our profile after getting a new follower to see what they see or desperately crave superman ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

growing up in an affluent area in michigan, everyone was very cookie cutter. we all wore the same things, acted the same way, and came from similar backgrounds. i used to try and hide my quirks and follow the crowd because of this. it was too much work. i want to be weird and dance around everywhere i go. grocery stores, restaurants, doctors offices, elevators.

i used to be really self conscious, but i eventually did try out my weird side in places where no one knew me. i realized that, while i got looks of interest (& sometimes, disapproval), nothing happened. my weird actions weren’t offending anyone & i was so happy to just be free to be me. i stopped caring about what other people thought about me and it actually made people like me more. not less.

so, let your freak flag fly & be you. express your intense love for anime, dip your pickles in frosting, or pretend you’re in a music video when jamming to your favorite song, and OWN IT. not everyone will appreciate your odd behavior, but i will. & more importantly, you’ll be expressing the person you’re meant to be. maybe it’ll catch on.
